Cyprus Senior Amateur Men’s & Ladies Opens 2013

The Cyprus Senior Amateur Men’s and Ladies Open 2013, organized by the CGF and sponsored by the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) was successfully held at the impressive Minthis Hills Golf Course, Tsada, Paphos, between May 25 and May 26. These 2-day Opens attracted a very strong field of 87 men and 26 ladies from 11 countries.

After the first day’s play in the Senior Men’s Open George Swanson (SCO) with a first day score of 72 led the field by six shots from Steve Clarke (GBR) and by 7 shots from 2009 Champion, Bob Windsor (GBR). The final day’s play proved to be dramatic for all concerned and particularly for George Swanson, who saw his substantial first-day lead disappear on the 12th hole with a nightmare score of 12. Bob Windsor’s solid score of 77 for the second day and 156 for the Championship was more than enough for him to claim the title by 4 shots from Steve Clarke (160), with George Swanson finishing in third place with 161.

In the Senior Ladies Open another ex-champion, Sofia Gerardi (GRC) winner in 2011, with a first day score of 88 lead the field by four shots from Sue Storer (GBR) and Elaine Wall (GBR) both with 92 shots. Sofia not only continued where she left off from the first day, but improved her performance with a final day score of 78 and 166 for the Championship to claim the title once again. Sue Storer claimed the runners-up position with a score of 90 for the day and 182 for the Championship, with Elaine Wall in third place with a second day score of 96 and 188 total.

After the event, all competitors commented on the excellent condition of the course, as well as the impressive clubhouse and facilities of the course.
